Drama by Design have designed new drama facilities including new stage lighting, sound/audio systems, audio visual systems, staging, curtains, tracks and seating in a wide range of venues throughout the UK and overseas. These include theatres, concert halls, school drama studios, college performing arts spaces, lecture theatres, colleges and universities.
The projects we have been involved in include new drama facilities for drama studios, rehearsal rooms, recording studios, music practice rooms, workshops, sound studios, theatres and performing arts centres in schools, colleges and universities.
We recently completed the design of new drama facilities for the media studio at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.
Drama courses are aimed at facilitating students' creative development through the integration of practice and theory. Experiential learning (or 'learning by doing') is fostered through workshop and practical enquiry, where active participation in the processes of theatre making and performance is undertaken. This includes the exploration of a range of rehearsal techniques and strategies for performance, training workshops, text-based work, devising, the techniques of directing, dramaturgy and performance skills, and the use of interdisciplinary techniques and vocabularies. Students have the opportunity to develop technical and production skills, with specialist technical staff supporting this work. Drama by Design designed new drama facilities consisting of a new stage lighting system for the media studio to meet the needs of the course.
Specialised modules in other media train students in writing and performing radio drama, storytelling, in the use of television studio equipment, shooting scripts and acting for the camera.
Drama employs a wide variety of learning and teaching methods in order to accommodate the range of activities undertaken. Some modules are taught through small group seminars and some through larger lectures, involving students in detailed textual and/or critical analysis. This work is balanced between tutor-led, student-led and self-directed study, and complemented by resource-based learning, including library study and attendance at performances, galleries and installations.
We have also been involved with specifying new drama facilities for new drama studios in schools and colleges all over the country. These generally include the installation of new lighting and sound equipment, audio visual systems, curtains and tracks, staging and seating.
Customers are thrilled with the work that is carried out as it provides a new, state-of-the-art facility to enable staff and students to provide excellent performing and creative arts work.
